New Iberia on the national news! A train derailed near downtown last evening, actually just as Susan and I were taking a walk (we heard all the sirens, didn't know what it was about). Lots of commotion, hazardous chemicals on the ground, etc. Partial evacuation and some streets closed down this morning. When my sister Elizabeth called from McLean, VA, this morning because she had heard about it on the news(!!), I told her that there was no school, and she guessed that my nephew Beau would probably like to see if he could transfer to New Iberia Senior High School. For the day.

.Zannah. posed the question, when she posted this on her site, "Would someone actually hang that on their wall?" Yes, someone would, and someone did; Sunday night I ate at a seafood restaurant that had one right above the cash register. One of the waitresses told me that after a while each evening, they are forced to unplug it in order to retain their sanity.

A pretty entertaining group of unusual and funny names, though without much means of verification or authentication, which gives the whole works a kind of urban legend feel.

Good news if you own a GPS receiver (or have been thinking of getting one). The signal is now no longer scrambled, so neither will you be. I can't wait to get out on the hiking trail again with mine.

A truly wonderful collection of rants about e-commerce disappointments. And thankful we are, for this gathering of impassioned expressions, to the good folks at bitchaboutit.com.

Ever wonder where those urban legends come from? Maybe the last one you heard was generated by a machine!

Yesterday we went to a wonderful wedding. Our long-in-love friends Michael Lyle and Heather Douglas got married, and in the brief moments of their self-scripted ceremony they managed to convey as much or more as those hour-long ceremonies do!
