When I first saw this URL: www.numedicine.com, I misread a "t" after the "u." And I thought it was very clever; taking off on the idea that alternative medicines might be considered as being something for nuts, but they actually do eat a lot of nuts, and that's only a part of why they're so much more healthy than the rest of us. But I had read it wrong. A Whois search informed me that no one, in fact, has reserved the name nutmedicine.com. Opportunity?

You wouldn't want to use any of these bug recipes, or course, if Orkin had just been there and sprayed their chemicals. These are more for hunter-gatherers than broadcast poisoners.

This panorama of the Hirshhorn Sculpture Garden is my favorite of a whole set of pan-pix of the Mall area, featured today on the Washington Post's site.

Homes To Which I'm Not Particularly Hoping To Be Invited For Dinner Dept.: I saw a bumper sticker on the back of a low-slung sedan yesterday reading, "Why did I have to get married? I didn't even do anything wrong!"

If you have any interest whatsoever in invisible women, here is the place to "see" them.

Coke sign A building-side sign in Demopolis, AL. This is a picture I took last spring, and for some reason I have been thinking about it. Demopolis is an old southern town with a colorful history, and enough off the beaten path to have retained much of its character.

Persistent and persuasive are good qualities for, say, an applicant for a sales job. But they are not desirable traits for chemical compounds such as found in Scotchguard, as this Washington Post article reports.

A good collector can bring together a collection of just about anything and make it seem fairly interesting. I mean anything. Even this.

Be warned, this 1895 map of Louisiana is a big download (about 1.5MB), but it's a great map. This is one of many "bonuses" at the Color Landform Atlas of the United States.

Help in identifying different kinds of trees. You could haul your laptop and cell modem out into the forest...or, I suppose, take a leaf to your computer desk.

Kestrel's Nest has a new design. It's very straightforward and text-driven; Eric is using a netpliance now at home, and hints that this may have played a role in the new design. Catch up on his netpliance adventures and take in his new look. Note also that he has scripted in his Weblogs.com favorites, making one column of his blog into a freshness-dated portal to his regular reads.
